IT'S THE WEEKEND!!!!
Hello all! Thank you very much for all of your posts and emails. I have enjoyed them tremendously (especially the conversations between the posts). It seems like a ton has happened since my last post, and I feel like I have been doing some extensive posting, which I have. I will take advantage of these frequent posts because once I have a job I will probably not be doing it as much.
However, since my last post, I have had an interview and a job at a temp agency. Although it is a job, I need to receive a call for work, which has not happened yet, but I only was "hired" Friday afternoon. I found out I am proficient at intermediate Word, Excel, and Power Point and can type 65 words per minute. I also have an interview on Monday morning for a classroom assistant so we will see what that brings. I am in the process of setting up a tour/interview of a company for an inbound sales/operations position at an audio equipment distributor. In addition to all of this, I have a position at a catering company. I had a gig for this evening from 18:00 to 2:30, but I was then called and told that the client does not want male staff this evening. Darn! I will probably work for them Monday night to get some £ rolling in. This position will allow me to attend some really posh and over the top events (as a worker not guest though). They do things at Buckingham Palace, some really old, big estates, and events all over the UK and parts of Europe.
That is the job update. I have sent my CV to lots of places and now am just waiting to hear back. Hopefully the above four work well for me though and I can be done with this exhausting job search. I will keep looking though! Next will come the living quarters search, probably on Tuesday depending on some situational factors. How exciting!
Today was a beautiful day, a bit chilly when the sun was behind the clouds, but warm when it was shining. I spent the day at Regent's Park (a large, famous park in Central London) and watched quite a bit of sport. There were matches of rugby, football (soccer), cricket, and the most humerous to watch, slow pitch softball. THEY WERE TERRIBLE. Man I could not stop laughing at how bad they were, but at least they were trying. I then went to Camden Market for lunch and had a ham and cheese crepe, mmmmm. I then returned to Regent's Park and took a nap in the grass.
Last night I was with a group of 11 Spaniards. They did not speak much English, but I had a blast.
Yesterday I experienced my first tube evacuation. I was at Holborn on the Central Line when they told us everyone needed to leave the train. They then announced that everyone needed to get out because of a security threat. The evacuation was pretty civilized (they have happened quite often since the bombings). The feeling was more of frustration from the delay and necessity to find an alternative route than from fear. People were running though, so it was an interesting experience. In addition to this, I was on my way to the interview, so I had to find and catch the correct bus to where my interview was. With all said, I made it on time without getting lost. The two women whom interviewed me were so funny. I love British humour. The boss woman was going on vacation with what I believe is her boyfriend and she did not know what to wear. Her and the other woman had been shopping and taking pictures of her all dressed up. They were fighting about which outfit. They asked me for the advice; it was all crazy. Two really funny women for my first interview!
Tonight I am getting some kebabs with Dan (my roommate from my previous trip here) and then visiting Emily at her pub. I think it should be a descent night.
Tomorrow is the Thames festival! Hope all is well in the U S of A
